Some mikes pick up sound
from all directions equally and are thus omnidirectional (Fig.
8.2). Other mikes are more sensitive to sound coming from
certain directions. These unidirectional mikes usually have
somewhat heart-shaped pickup patterns, which have come to
be labeled cardioid and hypercardioid (Fig. 8.2).
